Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 9th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born on Easter Sunday, April 11th, 1909, in Marshalltown, he was the son and one of 12 children born to Bert and Mary Elizabeth (Johnson) Holland. The couple was from Stavanger, Norway. Born on Easter Sunday, April 11th, 1909, in Marshalltown, he was the son and one of 12 children born to Bert and Mary Elizabeth (Johnson) Holland. The couple was from Stavanger, Norway. Bert graduated from the Marshalltown High School. He was raised in the Lutheran Faith until his marriage to Annabelle Fischer when they both became Methodist. She preceded him in death on March 20th, 1993. Mr. Holland was employed at JC Penney's, Cooper Manufacturing, Dunham-Bush and then Noma Company in Des Moines. During WWII, he worked in the ordinance plants in Minneapolis and Ankeny. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Bert. In death, he rejoined his beloved Annabelle, siblings Eleanor, Hilda, Magnus, Ben, George, Gerhart, Marie, Josephine and three in infancy. Funeral services for Bert Holland, 101, of Des Moines, were held Friday, July 9, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with Rev. Scott Lothe officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Jude McDonald, Mrs. Juanita Short, William Zink, Larry McKibben, Dean Jacobe and Gary Davis. A group in attendance was from the Marshalltown High School Class of 1954.
