Maxwell, 74, longtime resident of the Mingo community, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at the University hospitals at Iowa City. In failing health since 1951, Mr. Maxwell was admitted to the University hospitals March 20. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mingo Methodist church. The Rev. Kenneth E. Nesbitt, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Ashton Chapel cemetery near Mingo. Boyd-Nickell funeral home in Baxter will be in charge... Mr. Maxwell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Jessie) Good of Mingo, Mrs. Lester (Bertine) Schaffer of Mingo, Mrs. Walter (Fern) Herberger of Mingo and Mrs. Kenneth (Marilyn) Doty of Mingo; two sons, Harold of Des Moines and Richard of Mingo; 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Maxwell of Collins; and a sister, Mrs. William (Carrie) Owens of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter and a son. The son of Henry and Irene Snow Maxwell, he was born April 7, 1885 near Mingo. Educated in rural schools, he was married November 27, 1907 at Winterset to Olive Banta, who died in 1955. Mr. Maxwell farmed in the Mingo area, later operating a dray service and clerking in a store. He became an employe of the Maytag Co. in 1929, retiring in 1951." Contributor: SReese (50785361)
