The family later moved to Nebraska where she was married to Charles J. Fender, Jr. on Feb. 1, 1911. To this union six children were born, three of whom preceded the mother in death. Her husband also passed away in 1932. Bertha Fender died March 4, 1954 in St. Agnes hospital, Fresno, California, having reached the age of 60 years, 11 months, and 10 days. Survivors include... Her husband also passed away in 1932. Bertha Fender died March 4, 1954 in St. Agnes hospital, Fresno, California, having reached the age of 60 years, 11 months, and 10 days. Survivors include 3 daughters: Maxine (Johnson), Phyllis (Geistlinger), and Mildred (Mihulke); 6 grandchildren; five brothers- Neal, Frank, Jess, Ralph, and Howard; and three sisters- Jess (Michaels), Mrs. John Vandenburg, and Anna (Fink). During her residence in Seward, Bertha was a member of First Methodist church, where she attended services regularly. To her children she was a loving and devoted mother. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the First Methodist church with Rev. Friederich in charge. Mrs. Biven played the organ and Mrs. Harold Davisson was soloist. Pallbearers were August Geistlinger, Orville Radford, Charles Radford, Chester Lukert, Harold Hans, and Paul Wagonknecht. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Ulysses.
