She graduated from Welda High School in 1923. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Welda United Methodist Church and later the Garnett Methodist Church and a member of the UMW. She was born May 2, 1905, in Welda, to John Thomas and Julia Ann (Breese) Johnson. She graduated from Welda High School in 1923. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Welda United Methodist Church and later the Garnett Methodist Church and a member of the UMW. She married Orville C. Nokes in 1925 in Garnett. He preceded her in death in 1961. She then married Carl Ellington in 1978 in Garnett. He preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include one son, Larry Nokes of Pittsburg; three daughters, Lorna Brecheisen of Jean, Nev., Ann Osborn of Topeka, and Janette Mullins of Olathe; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Duane and Dwight Nokes in 2005; one grandson, Ronnie Nokes; two sisters; and five brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Garnett. Burial will be in the Welda Cemetery. Pastor Karol Brecheisen will officiate.
