God brought her into this world Dec. 11, 1920 and took her home 83 years later' oh her "Special Day" Bertha was a gracious lady who loved good company and pretty things. She always enjoyed visiting with her dear friends and family over a cup of coffee or tea and a fancy dessert. She was born in Ballantine, to Henry and Katherine Baum and graduated from Huntley Project Hugh School. On Jan. 17, 1942 she married C.R. Thomas in Billings. Many will remember Bertha when she worked at the Mildred Hazel dress Shop, Sophie's and the spinning Wheel. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tige Thomas; daughter, Dixie Shields; two sisters, Katherine Karst, Marie Puhr; five brothers, Phillip, Sam. Henry, Jake, and Leo Baum. She is survived by her son, Gary Thomas of Billings; son-in-law, Court Shields of Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Shawn (Jennifer) Shields of Massachusetts, Samantha Shields of California, Tina Miller of Washington, Deanna Burrece of Washington; her great-grand-children, Erin Rose, and Caroline of Massachusetts, rebecca Collin and Robin of Washington; and many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Should friends desire, memorials in Bertha's name may be made to Big Sky Hospice, of Billings, MT., or to the charity of your choice.
