Bertha Cornell Hageman, oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilhelm Cornell, was born August 12, 1862, near Polzin, Pommern, Germany and went to rest, Jan 2, 1956, at the age of 93 years, four months, and 20 days. In 1876 she was confirmed in faith in Polzin, Germany; and in 1885 she came to America, making her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Hass, near Ithaca, NE. Bertha Cornell Hageman, oldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilhelm Cornell, was born August 12, 1862, near Polzin, Pommern, Germany and went to rest, Jan 2, 1956, at the age of 93 years, four months, and 20 days. In 1876 she was confirmed in faith in Polzin, Germany; and in 1885 she came to America, making her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Hass, near Ithaca, NE. On Feb 8, 1887 she was united in marriage to Herman Hageman of Ithaca; to this union were born two sons and nine daughters, one daughter, Lily died in infancy and one son, Alvin died as a young man in 1920. Her husband Herman passed away in 1933. Mrs. Hageman was converted and united in church fellowship with the Zion Evangelical Church in August of 1887 and as long as health permitted was a faithful attendant of that church. so passes one of the pioneer of the early church, having supported it for 68 years. Mother Hageman leaves behind, one son Ezra at home near Ithaca, and eight daughters: Louise Schlaphof of Murdock, NE; Amanada Meierhenry of Fremont, NE, Eda Gerdes of Lincoln, NE, Selma at home, near Ithaca; Marie Hanke of Wahoo, NE, Emma Thompson of Hillsdale, IL, Freda Sedlacek of Braninard, NE. Also 12 grandchildren, one, Marvin Wagner, gave his life for his country in 1943. There are also 14 great grandchildren, and one cousin, Louis Hass of Ithaca. She had one sister and four brothers which have preceded her in death. A great many friends and neighbors will miss her from their midst,. Those who come after her, rise up and call her blessed. Burial was from the evangelical United Brethren Church in Ithaca, Rev. C. E. Nichols officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Zion Cemetery south of Ithaca.
