Description	:	EARLVILLE, Iowa - Bertha F. Goldsmith, 71, of Earlville, died after a short illness, Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 1995, at Mercy Health Center St. Mary's Unit, Dyersville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, where there will be a guild rosary at 4 p.m. and a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Goldsmith worked with her husband on their farm and in their home until they retired and moved into Earlville in 1982.... She was born on May 24, 1924, in Petersburg, daughter of Valentine and Celia (Thole) Nefzger. She married James E. Goldsmith on Jan. 7, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Earlville; he died July 19, 1985. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, its guild and choir, and was a reading lady at the school. She was active in the Archdiocese Conference of Catholic Women and volunteered at Mercy Health Center St. Mary's Unit and Oak Crest Manor, both in Dyersville. Surviving are six sons, David (Mary Jane) and James (Kristi), both of Earlville, Roger (Marcia), of Edgewood, Jerry (Nancy) of Kendallville, Ind., Steve, of Lakewood, Colo., and Dan (Natalie), of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Joan (Jim) Steger, of Earlville, and Sister Mary Beth, of Sioux City; 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Rausch, and Laura (George) Goldsmith, both of Earlville; and one brother, Edward (Bernadine) Nefzger, of Earlville. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Elmer Nefzger, in 1989; and a grandson, Jason. Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Thursday, November 2, 1995
