Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Beulah Congregational Church, with the Rev. John Fanella officiating. Burial will be in Beulah City Cemetery. She was born July 20, 1917, to John and Lydia Kessler delivered by mid-wife, Rosia Kessler, mother of John Kessler. She was born July 20, 1917, to John and Lydia Kessler delivered by mid-wife, Rosia Kessler, mother of John Kessler. Bertha was the first of three girls and worked very hard growing up on her parents' farm. She attended schools in Zap and Beulah and endured many hardships during the 1930s. On Oct. 18, 1941, she married Julius Orth. Married 43 years, he died in July 1985. Bertha donated many hours and financial gifts to Mercer County Historical Society Museum, churches, seminary students, Beulah Community Nursing Home, Sakakawea Medical Center and Beulah Senior Citizens Center. Her beliefs and principles centered around church, family and community with values hinged on basic honesty and integrity. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Kusler, Meridian, Idaho. (Her youngest sister, Emma Fitzgerald, preceded her in death in June 1996). She is also survived by Joan Fitzgerald, Minot, Cindi Swanson, Bradenton, Fla., Debbie Fitzgerald, Bismarck, Faith Fitzgerald, Rosemount, Minn., Faye Harrison, Rosemount, and numerous nieces and nephews.
