She had resided there for seven years under their compassionate care. She was born Bertha Louise Marie Clauson March 31, 1925 in Ottumwa to Alfred and Hulda Swanson Clauson. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1943. She married Harold Roy Carruthers on June 24, 1944 and to this union three daughters were born, Lillian Renae, Deborah Linnet and Christine Marie. She had resided there for seven years under their compassionate care. She was born Bertha Louise Marie Clauson March 31, 1925 in Ottumwa to Alfred and Hulda Swanson Clauson. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1943. She married Harold Roy Carruthers on June 24, 1944 and to this union three daughters were born, Lillian Renae, Deborah Linnet and Christine Marie. She had worked for many years as a maid at The Stardust Motel in Ottumwa. She was known for her hard work ethic and her sense of humor. She liked to play little harmless pranks on people that would put a smile on their faces. She was also known for making the best apple pie. Left to celebrate her life are two daughters, Lillian Renae (Earl) Hanes of Ottumwa and Debbie (Butch) Martin of Scottsdale, Arizona; four granddaughters, Becky Hanes of Centerville, Misty Martin of Scottsdale, Az., Amy Roberds of Mesa, Az. and Angie Carlo of Marion, Iowa; two grandsons Shane Martin of Mesa, AZ. and Bryan Carlo of Valdosta, GA; nine great -grandchildren; special friends and neighbors Tony and Pat Canny. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, daughter, Christine Carlo, three sisters, Astrid Johnson, Lillian Tipling, Alice Merrill and a brother, Henry Clauson. Her body has been cremated. Graveside services and inurnment will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Shaul Cemetery with Marty Williams officiating. Reece Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
