Eucharistic Ministers will be a daughter, Charlene Lux, and a granddaughter, Karla Niemeier. The Templeton Catholic Daughters of America will form an honor guard at the church for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Bobby Hoffman, Steven Hoffman, Kevin Hoffman, Daryl Stangl, David Stangl, Kevin Lux, Kurt Lux, Kraig Lux, Kurt Niemeier, Kenneth Hoffman, and Perry Hoffman. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Sunday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Sunday by the Templeton Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Sunday by Holy Spirit Parish. Mrs. Hoffman was born on March 10, 1910, at Canute, Oklahoma, the daughter of Mathias and Josephine (Wiskus) Steffes. When she was two years old her family moved to the Dedham community where she attended St. Joseph School. Prior to her marriage she worked for various families in the Dedham area. On March 3, 1930, she was married to William Hoffman at St. Joseph Church in Dedham. The couple farmed in the Dedham and Templeton area until 1990 when they moved to Carroll. Mrs. Hoffman was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Templeton Catholic Daughters of America, and the Rosary Makers Club. Bertha enjoyed her family, flowers, gardening, and visiting with her family and friends. Survivors include her sons, Merle Hoffman and wife Marguerite of Elizabeth Town, Kentucky, and Jerome Hoffman and wife Helen of Medon, Tennessee; her daughter, Charlene Lux of Breda; a son-in-law, Merle Stangl of Atlantic; twenty grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren; and fourteen great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoffman, in August 1998; her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Stangl; granddaughter, Janet Marie Lavery; a son-in-law, Robert Lux; sister, Josephine Breeden; and brothers, Leo Steffes, Edward Steffes, Alvin Steffes, and Fred "Fritz" Steffes.
