Description	:	Bertha Miedema was born on April 2, 1918, near Ypsilanti in Barnes County, ND, the seventh of eleven children born to Ernest and Allie (Van De Berg) Miedema. She spent the first years of her life in rural Barnes County and moved to Valley City after her marriage to Harry Van Enk on June 8, 1939. Read More	Bertha Miedema was born on April 2, 1918, near Ypsilanti in Barnes County, ND, the seventh of eleven children born to Ernest and Allie (Van De Berg) Miedema. She spent the first years of her life in rural Barnes County and moved to Valley City after her marriage to Harry Van Enk on June 8, 1939. Bertha was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church where she participated in Sunday School teaching, Dorcas Society, and used her musical talents playing the piano and organ. She was a leader in home Bible studies and a volunteer at the Sheyenne Care Center, providing a Sunday afternoon service for the residents for many years. Bertha was a top notch homemaker. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and reading. Bertha's baking, preserving, gardening and entertaining skills were enjoyed by many. Her father once told her "you were born with a paint brush in your hand" as she did all of the painting at their home and assisted her husband in the construction trade with painting, wood finishing and much cleaning of their rental properties. In 1995 she relocated to Greenville, SC to be near family where she attended Hampton Park Baptist Church and made many new friends. She was lovingly cared for in different facilities in the area according to her needs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry and 9 siblings. Bertha is survived by four daughters: Audrey Hoffmann, Greenville, SC; Bonnie (Michael) Miller, Danville, CA; Arlis (Peter) Nash, Peoria, AZ and Cheryl (Phil) Esser, Ft. Worth, TX; 9 grandchildren: Jeffrey Miller, Douglas Miller, Nita Miller, Greg Hoffmann, Gwen Hoffmann Brady, Kimberly Nash Berg, Tina Nash Hayden, Rebecca Nash Kelly and Debra Reinertsen; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Van Dyke, Valley City; a sister-in-law, Jean Crittenden, Fairhope, AL; and 33 nieces and nephews. Bertha's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at McCall's Hospice House and her other care givers over the years for the wonderful way they attended to their mother, grandmother and sister.
