Per her death certificate, she was a manager of a boarding house at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Pleasant Theodore Warr and Ella Vermelle Abbott. Per her death certificate, she was a manager of a boarding house at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Pleasant Theodore Warr and Ella Vermelle Abbott. She died in an automobile accident on the Camden Highway in which the steering wheel crushed her thoracic cavity. She died at the Columbia Hospital. Found in The State 23 January 1942: Mrs. Bertha W. Abbott, 51, of Greenville was injured fatally Thursday when the car in which she was driving plunged down an embankment seven miles north of Columbia on Highway No. 1. The accident occurred around 3 o'clock and Mrs. Abbott died shortly after being carried to the Columbia hospital. An eyewitness to the accident, Furman Medlin, told investigating officers that Mrs. Abbott applied the brakes suddenly and the car left the road and plunged down the embankment, which was about eight feet high. Her chest was crushed. Mrs. Abbott was returning from a visit to her son, George Henry Abbott, in Camden, who is connected with the Southern Air service. Mrs. Abbott was a native of Darlington and the body was taken there for burial.
