Van Valkenburg, aged 24, and Miss Bertha Smith, both of Mitchell, S. D., was granted to the minor girl on the strength of a letter from the parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Smith, in which they expressed their consent, and added: "It is with our blessing, and may God bless them both. Again accept our blessing from your father and mother." The Sioux City Journal, September 11, 1900 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Bertha Burmeister, 61, 1211 S. St. Aubin street, died Tuesday at her home after an illness of 18 months. Mrs. Burmeister was born in Centerville, S. D. She was married to Walter Burmeister November 19, 1932. He died in September, 1942. Mrs. Burmeister was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a son, Edward Van Valkenburg of Spokane; a sister, Mrs. Ella Gross of Sioux City; three stepchildren and four grandchildren. The body was taken to the W. Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside. The Sioux City Journal, January 21, 1948 ~~~~~~~~~~~ Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Burmeister, 61, 1211 S. St. Aubin street, who died Tuesday at her home, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nazarene. Rev. A. A. Ronshaussen will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park cemetery under direction of the W. Harry Christy funeral home. The Sioux City Journal, January 22, 1948
