Dr. George Salnave of the First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma officiated. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery. She was born Dec. 14, 1911 at Albia to Peter and Mary Roberts Sammon. He attended Montezuma schools. She married Louis Smothers Jan. 20, 1938 at Oskaloosa and they farmed in the Montezuma area until 1959, when they moved to Newton. Survivors include her husband, Louis; seven sons, James, Montezuma, Garold, Grinnell, Raymond, Colfax, William, Marshalltown, Fred and Ed, both of Newton and Jack, Grinnell; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lodema McCormick, Malcom and Dorthy Flemming, Norwalk.
