Description	:	Relatives and friends alike were shocked and grieved last Thursday afternoon to hear of the death of Mrs. L.C. Van Batavia (Bertha Rikkers) of Hull, Iowa. Mrs. Van Batavia passed away quietly in the home of her children, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Paulsen in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Thursday, November 14, at the age of 73 years. Van Batavia (Bertha Rikkers) of Hull, Iowa. Mrs. Van Batavia passed away quietly in the home of her children, Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Paulsen in Milwaukee, Wisc., on Thursday, November 14, at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Van Batavia was born on January 5, 1895, at Hull, Iowa, the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Rutger Rikkers. She was united in marriage to Louis C. Van Batavia on February 19, 1920, and to this union two children were born: Helen (Mrs. F.D. Paulsen) of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Roger of Mount Vernon, Washington. Mrs. Van Batavia is survived by her children, Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Paulsen and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Van Batavia and four grandchildren: Roberta Lou Paulsen from Milwaukee, Wisc., and Steven Roger Van Batavia, Susan Maria Van Batavia and Douglas Van Batavia from Mt. Vernon, Washington. Mrs. Van Batavia is also survived by five sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Luke H. Brunsting, Mrs. William Gunnink, Mrs. A. H. Brunsting, Mrs.Bernard Moss, from Hull; and Miss Margaret Rikkers from Long Beach, California, Richard Rikkers from Hull and Bert Rikkers from LongBeach, California. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Rikkers and her husband, Louis C. Van Batavia, who passed away August 16, 1967. Mrs. Van Batavia was a faithful member of the American Reformed Church In Hull. She was active in the Guild for Christian Service and in the Sunday School. Mrs. Van Batavia was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also a member of the Lincoln Homemakers. She leaves to mourn her death a large circle of relatives and friends. These words, the words of a hymn were sent to the relatives by Mrs. Van Batavia's niece, Bette Brunsting of Pella, Iowa: If thou but suffer God to guide thee, And hope in Him through all thy ways, He'll give thee strength whate'er betide thee, And bear thee through the evil days. God never yet forsook in need The soul that trusted Him indeed. The memorial services for Mrs. L.C. Van Batavia were held on Monday, November 18, 1968 at 1:30 o'clock P. M at the American Reformed Church, HulL Iowa, Rev. Paul Vander Woude, officiating. Jackie Westra gave a musical reading "'Should You Go First", in connection with her solo "Beyond the Sunset". Mrs. Lawrence Oelrich was the organist. Casket bearers were Elmer H. Brunsting, Richard F. Gunnink, Frank W. Gunnink, Marel Lee Moss, Charles Oelrich and Richard Ten Braak. Interment was in Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa, and the arrangements fay Kraai Funeral Home, Hull, lowa. Sioux County Index 1968-11-28.
