At the early age of three years she came with her parents to this country, settling in the state of Wisconsin, from whence after a few years, the family moved to Franklin County, Iowa where she resided up to March, 1916, when with her family, she again moved back to the state of Wisconsin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From The Dows Advocate (IA) Bertha was born 05 Oct 1864 in Zarpen, Germany. She came with her parents to the United States in 1867 aboard the sailing ship Palmerston, Settling in WI. Later, they moved to Franklin County, IA until 1916, when they moved back to WI. On 23 Feb 1888, she married G. H. Butenhoff. They had 11 children. Survivors include her husband, eight children, Adolph of Dows, Mrs. E. A. Thomas of Dexter, MN; Arthur, Leo, Gustave, Hilda, Lulu and Walter, all of Earl WI, her aged mother, five brothers and three sisters all living in this vicinity. She was buried 27 Feb 1917 in Morgan Cemetery, east of Dows.
