Read More	Father: Frank Reed Mother: ___ (St. Martin) Reed SON OF FRANK REED DROWNED: Bertrand Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reed of Carson, Washington, was drowned in the Columbia Slough, near Portland, Oregon, last Saturday, while bathing. Bert was attending the Christian Brothers College in Portland, and on Saturday had gone with some of his schoolmates on a picnic to Columbia Slough. While at the picnic, he and two of his playmates concluded to go swimming. The other two went off ahead of Bert and he followed up some distance behind. When they looked back they could not see him and supposed he had decided not to go swimming, so they did not hurry back. But soon they thought they had better look him up. They found his clothes where he had left them and then gave the alarm. Diligent search was at once instituted but the body could not be found that day. It seems that while wading along in the shallow water, Bert suddenly stepped into a deep hole and while trying to swim out, he was taken with a cramp and was thus drowned before he was able to give any warning that he was in trouble. When news came to Carson of the sad event, it found his mother sick in bed and his father away from home, up at Yakima, Washington, where he was looking after some financial interests. The body was brought home on the train Monday morning, and buried in the Carson Cemetery. Bertland Reed was about 15 years old. He is highly spoken of by his playmates and acquaintances in Carson. He was honest, intelligent and industrious, and was a general favorite among his associates. He was a grandson of Mrs. M. St. Martin. His parents had laid their plans to give him a good education, and the prospects seemed good to him for a long and useful life, but through the wisdom of a Divine Providence, whose ways are so mysterious to us, he has been cut off from all the bright prospects of this life, undoubtedly to enter into a greater life and greater responsibility in the great beyond.The parents and relatives have the deep sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.
