Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Carroll, with burial beside her husband in the Carroll City Cemetery. The Rev. Ernest Larson will officiate. An Eastern Star memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Byerly was the former Bess Alice Rawhouser. She was born September 7, 1887, in Ellsworth county, Kansas and in 1890 came to Carroll with her parents, William Blosser and Elzetta Morgan Rawhouser. She attended Carroll Public Schools and at the age of 13 became the first assistant librarian at the Carroll Public Library. Her marriage to John Raymond Byerly took place at Denison, November 29, 1913, and with the exception of a few years on a farm near Glidden, they made their home in Carroll until he retired from the Carroll Post Office. After retirement, they lived at Clearwater, Florida, for three years, returning to Carroll in 1959. Before entering St. Anthony Nursing Home, Mrs. Byerly lived at 516 North Court Street. Mrs. Byerly was a member of First United Methodist Church and U.M.W.; a 50 year member of Signet Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star, and held honorary memberships in the Clio Club and F.L.C. Club. She was instrumental in the organization of the local assembly of the Order of Rainbow for Girls in the early 1930's and served onthe Rainbow Advisory Board for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Jackson Tooley, and a grandson, James M. Tooley, both of Carroll; two nieces and three nephews. Preceding her in death besides her husband were her son, Ward M. Byerly, on January 13, 1948, a sister, Mrs A.J. (Mamie) Graham and a brother, Harry C. Rawhouser. The family suggest that memorials be in form of donations to the Carroll Public Library.
