Description	:	Daughter of James & Antonia (Pokorny) Poskochil. She attended grade school in rural Howard County, Nebraska. After completing the eighth grade, Bessie attended St. Paul Business College in St. Paul, Nebraska, graduating in 1930. She then moved to Omaha with an older sister to find work. After working in Omaha for three years she met Cecil Swartz. They were married on June 10, 1934 in Omaha. After completing the eighth grade, Bessie attended St. Paul Business College in St. Paul, Nebraska, graduating in 1930. She then moved to Omaha with an older sister to find work. After working in Omaha for three years she met Cecil Swartz. They were married on June 10, 1934 in Omaha. After spending some time working in Omaha and another short period of time working with Cecil's father in Ravenna, Nebraska they became farmers. For the next 20 years, Cecil and Bessie harvested crops and raised livestock on small farms northwest of Grand Island, Nebraska and later north and south of Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1955, due to Cecil's health, they sold their farm equipment and for the next 22 years Cecil worked as a truck scale operator for the Nebraska Department of Roads. Cecil spent the last 20 years as a scale operator in Columbus where, in 1955 they purchased their first home. Bessie worked as a sales clerk in several retail stores. In 1975 they retired and spent the next sixteen years traveling to southern Texas for the fall and winter months and returning to Columbus during the spring and summer months. After Cecil's death in 1998, Bessie continued to live in their home in Columbus until moving to Prairie Village Retirement Center and then to Cottonwood House. Bessie is survived by: Son - James (Helen) Swartz of Silver Creek, NE Son - David (Janice) Swartz of Lincoln, NE Brother - James Poskochil of Pawnee City, NE Sister - Venice Kucera of Lincoln, NE Sister-in-law - Agnes Poskochil of Wahoo, NE Nine Grandchildren Twenty-eight Great Grandchildren Fourteen Great-Great Grandchildren Bessie was preceded in death by: Parents - James and Antonia Poskochil Husband - Cecil Swartz Four Brothers Two Sisters One Great Grandson
