From Nevada Evening Journal September 11, 1942 (page 3) Funeral Services Held Here Sunday for Mrs. Ben Edwards Funeral rites for Mrs. Benjamin F. Edwards, 45, of 1720 Fifth street who died at the University hospital, on Friday, were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Evangelical church, with the pastor Rev. Theodore Yachel in charge. There were two songs "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Jesus, Saviour Pilot Me," sang by Mrs. Kenneth Rapp with Mrs. Yackel as accompanist. The church was well filled with relatives, friends and neighbors who had gathered to pay a final tribute of respect to the deceased. Beautiful floral offerings banked the bier and later covered the grave in the Nevada cemetery where she was laid to rest. Casket bearers were Howard Wright, Frank Dennis, Raymond Taylor, J. M. Olson, Robert Child and Orman Pence. The following obituary of the deceased was read by the minister during the service: "Mrs. Benjamin F. Edwards, whose maiden name was, Bessie Catherine Stackhouse, was born at Hampton, Iowa, June 16, 1897, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen J. Stackhouse. It was at Hampton that she received her educational training and spent the early part of her life. "She was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Edwards, at Marshalltown, Iowa, on March 6, 1916. After a few years of residence at Hampton, they moved to Nevada. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. "During the years of residence at Nevada, she was employed for may years at the Nevada Poultry company, which increased the work of an already busy housewife and mother. "About a year ago she began to fail in health from which she never recovered, passing away on Friday, Sept. 11, 1942, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, following a major operation. She reached the age of 45 years, three months and five days. "At the age of sixteen she joined the Evangelical church at Hampton. She was a member of the Woodman Circle. Her chief interest and concern was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. "She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Benjamin F. Edwards, three children, David Owen of San Diego Calif., Mrs. Thelma Ruth Larson of Burbank, Calif., and Melvin Wayne, at home, three grandchildren, Sandra Kay Larson, and Richard Eugene and Gloria Jean Edwards, her parents, four sisters and four brothers. One sister and one brother preceded her in death. These, with other relatives and many friends are left to mourn her passing."
