Suffered Attack of LaGrippe and Later Heart Disease Develops--Funeral on Friday. At the family residence, at 21 West Fourth Street, at noon today, occurred the death of Miss Bessie, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. William F. Chevalier. Her death was due to heart disease and followed and illness of less than a week. The announcement of the sudden demise was received with the deepest sorrow by a large acquaintanceship. Late last week Miss Chevalier contracted a severe case of LaGrippe, and that malady in turn affected her heart. On Sunday her condition became serious, and yesterday her father was summoned to hurry home from Kansas City, arriving here late last night. The members of the family are grief-stricken, the loss, because of the brief illness, being especially keenly felt. Miss Chevalier was 24 years of age and had resided in Muscatine about eleven years, during which time she cultivated the friendship of many. She was born in Ames, Ia., and after residing for a time at Red Oak, came to Muscatine in 1901, when her father accepted the position as superintendent of the Muscatine city schools. Following her coming to Muscatine, she continued her studies at the Muscatine High School, from which institution she was later graduated. For more than four years she was the instructor in the second grade at the Garfield school, but was forced to give up the arduous duties and cares of the schoolroom last fall because of her ill-health. She was a member of the First congregational church of this city and was active in the local Young Women's Christian Association. She displayed particular interest in the latter institution and was an indefatigable worker in associational circles. Aside from her parents, she is survived by three sisters, who are Misses Mary, Olivette and Lucille, all of this city. The funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, at the home, and on Saturday morning the remains will be taken to Ames, Ia., where interment will be made in the family lot at the cemetery there.
