The daughter of Henry and Emily Powell Davis, she was born in Toluca, Ill., Sept. 1, 1905. She was a resident of Ottumwa for many years prior to moving to Kansas in 1955. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. The casket will arrive Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. “Black Funeral,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” Wednesday, May 10, 1967: The service for Mrs. Bessie E. Black, 61, of Eureka, Kan., a former Ottumwan who died Sunday in Northfield, Ohio, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. A.D. Pringle of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John, Bobby, and Gary Black and Otto Jr., James and Robert Ammenhauser. The casket arrived at the Johnson chapel this morning.
