Goben and Effie Lula Cackler OBITUARY THE SENTINEL-TRIBUNE Osceola, Iowa Thursday, January 19, 1995 BESSIE FERN HESTON Bessie Fern Heston, daughter of Alfred Allen and Effie Cackler Goben, was born in Lucas County on Oct. 15, 1898, and died of a heart ailment Jan. 11, 1995, at the Leon Care Center in Leon. She was 96. She attended Lucas County Schools and married Rolland M. Heston on Sept. 26, 1917, at Chariton. The couple became the parents of nine children. Mrs. Heston lived in the Woodburn area until 1980 when she moved to Osceola. A homemaker, Mrs. Heston was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Woodburn and was a member of the Christian Union Church at Lucas. She liked to work in the garden, especially with flowers. She also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Mrs. Heston's children were her greatest love and enjoyment. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rolland in 1960; son Everett Heston in 1991; five grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; three brothers; one sister and five sons-in-law. Mrs. Heston is survived by her daughters, Iona Vandermey and her husband, William Vandermey of Leon, Mary Hay of Canton, Ohio; Deloris Winn of Ollie, Betty Williams and her husband, Virgil Williams of Weldon, Jo Ann Parmer and her husband, Ronald Parmer of Osceola and Genevieve Wall and her husband, Tom Wall, of Mansfield, Ark; sons, G. Allen Heston and his wife, Wilma Heston, of Woodburn and Jerry L. Heston and his wife, Trudy Heston, of Ankeny; 30 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jessie Griffiths of Ottumwa; brother, Edward Goben of Lucas; as well as other relatives and friends. Services for Mrs. Heston were held Jan. 14 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Judith Miller officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang In the Garden and Life's Railway to Heaven. Casket bearers were Jerry Heston, Perry Heston, Richard Toni, Donnie Williams, bobby Winn and Jerome Winn. Honorary bearers were Perry Palmer, Michael Winn , Billy and Larry Winn. Interment was in the Ottawa Cemetery in Clarke County.
