Description	:	Bessie L Herron was born in Monon, Ind., On March 26, 1883. She perished in the Iroquois theater fire, Chicago, Dec. 30,1903. Since 1895 she has resided with her parents in the city, where her educated was completed, graduating from high school class of 1901, and afterwards attending the Chicago University for one term. She served with credit as a teacher in the public schools and also in the office of the W. B. Conkey Co. and of the G. H. Hammond Co. Among the people of the city she was widely and favorably known, her circle of acquaintances and friends... Read More	Bessie L Herron was born in Monon, Ind., On March 26, 1883. She perished in the Iroquois theater fire, Chicago, Dec. 30,1903. Since 1895 she has resided with her parents in the city, where her educated was completed, graduating from high school class of 1901, and afterwards attending the Chicago University for one term. She served with credit as a teacher in the public schools and also in the office of the W. B. Conkey Co. and of the G. H. Hammond Co. Among the people of the city she was widely and favorably known, her circle of acquaintances and friends including the best people. All who knew her were impressed with her kind and benevolent disposition and her sweet Christian spirit. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church into who's fellowship she was baptized in 1896. Here she was an incessant toiler, for here the chief interest of her young life centered. All departments of the church activity shared in her loving service. In the Baptist Young Peoples Union she was acknowledged leader. She was a teacher in the Sunday School for several years. For about four years she has been the leader of the Junior Union, and by these children she will be most sorely missed. The funeral service was held in the First Baptist Church at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, attended despite the severe storm by a large concourse of people. Appropriate selections were rendered by the male quartet, after which the pastor Rev. W. H. Jones delivered a well-chosen address. Many beautiful floral tributes were received, representing the B.Y.P,U., the Junior Union, the Ladies Aid Society, the Modern Woodman, the Bonita Athletic club, of which Miss Herron was president, the High School Class of 01, and from many other kind friends. The remains, accompanied by many friends were taken to Monon on the 12:51 train, where interment was made in the family lot in the village cemetery in the presence of many friends and relatives of that community. A life of singular strength and character has been suddenly terminated – a warning to all of the uncertainties of this world, but that life, brief as it was, has shed a fragrance into many other lives which will be abiding as an influence for good through the years to come. – Hammond Daily News. -Monon News Jan.8, 1904
