Description	:	Bessie Ilene Murphey Hoogestraat, 95, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Monday, June 7, 2010. She was born in Akron, Iowa on July 21, 1914, the daughter of Robert and Orpha Murphey. She grew up in Iowa and moved to Lennox, SD in 1931. She graduated from Lennox High School in 1932. She married Dick A. Hoogestraat on Dec. 5, 1933 in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived near Lennox, SD until her husband died and she lived there until she moved to The Dalles in 2001.... Read More	Bessie Ilene Murphey Hoogestraat, 95, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Monday, June 7, 2010. She was born in Akron, Iowa on July 21, 1914, the daughter of Robert and Orpha Murphey. She grew up in Iowa and moved to Lennox, SD in 1931. She graduated from Lennox High School in 1932. She married Dick A. Hoogestraat on Dec. 5, 1933 in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived near Lennox, SD until her husband died and she lived there until she moved to The Dalles in 2001. She lived at Cherry Heights Retirement Center until 2008, when she moved into Mill Creek Point Assisted Living. She was a member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls and served as a deacon in the church. She was an avid bowler for many years and was a member in the Lennox Chorus Choir. She also enjoyed sewing and making things for gifts. She became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in The Dalles in May 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Bangsund and her husband John of The Dalles.. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dirk Johnson and his wife Melanie, Judith Bangsund Hollenberg and her husband Andrew, Michael Bangsund and Steven Bangsund and his wife Tina; eight great grandchildren and their spouses and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick in 1988, daughter Ruth in 1995, three sisters and one brother. Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in The Dalles with Pastor John Westhafer officiating. A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, June 26 at 10 a.m. at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home in Lennox, SD with interment to follow at Lennox Cemetery.
