Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Friday, December 4, 1970, Page 14: Mrs. Bessie Huffman FORT MADISON – Mrs. Bessie Jane Huffman, 75, former Fort Madison resident, died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Park Manor Nursong [sic] Home in Burlington, where she had been a resident since October of 1969. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Brethren in Ottumwa. Burial will be in McCormack [sic] Cemetery near Ottumwa. The Rev. Milton Early will be in charge. She was born May 4, 1895 at Kansas City, Mo., and had been a resident of Fort Madison since 1961. She was married Oct 28, 1917, at Ottumwa to Charles A. Huffman, who died Sept. 4, 1958. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Ottumwa. She is survived by a stepson, Hubert Huffman of Davenport; three daughters, Mrs. Louis Hodge of Kasson, Minn., Mrs. Cecil Van Ausdall of Fort Madison and Mrs. Pearl Jackson Gibbs of Burlington; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Gladys Dennison of Milan, Ill., Mrs. Lucille Dennis in Florida and Mrs. Ida Waldren in California; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Rice and Mrs. Dolly Leedom, both of Everett, Wash.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, James Gray and her mother, Mrs. Nettie Rice, and two brothers. The family will be at the Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison Friday between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
