Hartley on February 14, 1953, in Pekin, Illinois. --------------- Obituary From The Ottumwa Courier, Thursday, February 6, 1997: Bess Hartley FREMONT – Bess L. Hartley, 73, of 347 S. Walnut, Fremont, died at 4:25 p.m. Feb. 4, 1997, at the home of her brother, H.G. "Pete" Troxel. She was born June 29, 1923, in Ottumwa to Emery and Minnie Rama Troxel. She married Clifford L. Hartley on Feb. 14, 1953, in Pekin, Ill. She had been a resident of Fremont since 1969, and had been a waitress and cook. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Ken Williams of Des Moines, James Wilt of Ottumwa and Mike Wilt of Hedrick; a daughter, Barbara Jenkins of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, H.G. "Pete" Troxel of Ottumwa and Daniel Troxel of Kirkville; and five sisters, Lottie Greene and Beryl Brown of Des Moines, Pet Elkins, Martha Townsend and Mary Songer of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Danny Hartley; a daughter, Geraldine Williams; six brothers, Cecil, Warren, Victor, Otto, Wayne and an infant, Leo Troxel; and an infant sister, Ruth Troxel. The service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Loyd Osborn of High Point Foursquare Gospel Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Bruce, Roger, Emery, Bob and Grant Troxel and Scott Hazelwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Troxel and Nathan Hazelwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wapello County, 312 E. Alta Vista, Ottumwa.
