Bessie attended school in Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School in 1927. She remained on the farm and helped with the work until her marriage to Arne Aune, April 8, 1930, at Valley City. Life for Arne and Bessie was not always easy. They were married at the beginning of the great depression, so it was hard to make a living on the farm. Bessie made some of the Christmas presents out of apple boxes and scrape lumber. Real candles were placed on the tree with metal holders clipped to the branches, along with strings of popcorn and homemade paper chains. During these years Bessie worked away from the farm for about one year. She worked in Valley City at the Bauman Cafe in the kitchen and Land-O-Lakes cleaning chickens. Bessie and Arne farmed in the Sanborn and Valley City area before buying a farm at Leal, ND. A fire in the the 1950's did a lot of damage to the interior of their home by Leal, and in 1970, after they had moved to California the house burned to the ground. While Bessie lived in Marsh Township she was a member of the Green Homemakers club and when they moved to Lea, she belonged to the eal Homakers club and Birthday club. Card games such as canasta and whist were played with the neighbors for one of their activities. Arne and Bessie had an auction sale and moved to Escondido, CA in 1957. Their youngest son, Robert, was still living at home and moved with them. Arne worked as a carpenter building houses. They planned and built a house for themselves in Escondido. In 1965 they moved to Poway, CA. Arned worked at the Poway Unified School District as senior custodian and did some woodworking. While in California, Bessie worked as a private-care-giver. Arne and Bessie had five children; Arlene, Andrew, Myrna, Beverly and Robert. Myrna passed away in infancy. Following Arne's death in 1977, Bessie moved back to Valley City and in 1979 she moved to Jamestown to live with her son, Robert, and family. Bessie died February 15, 1980, at Jamestown, ND hospital from a massive heart attack. Bessie and Arne are buried at Memory Gardens, east of Valley City, ND. Written by her children. Bessie Margaret Aune married Arne Leonard Aune on April 8, 1930. They lived on a farm in North Dakota until their three oldest children were raised. They moved to Escondido, California when their youngest child, Robert was 12 years old. Bessie and Arne Aune had five children. Arlene, Andrew, Beverly, Myrna Jean, and Robert. Myrna Jean died in infancy. Mrs. Arne Aune The funeral for Mrs. Arne Aune, 71, formerly of Valley City, N.D., will be there at 2 Tuesday in Our Saviours Lutheran Church. She died Friday. Bessie Margaret Myhre was born Aug. 15, 1908, at Sanborn, N. D., and married Mr. Aune April 8, 1930 at Valley City. They farmed in the Valley City area, moved to Escondido, Calif., in 1957 and to Poway, Calif., in 1965. In 1977, he died and she moved to Jamestown in August 1979. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Andrew, Sanborn; Robert, Jamestown; Mrs. Joe (Arlene) Olson, Bismarck, N.D.; and Mrs. Merrill (Beverly) willson, Leal, N.D.; three sisters, Mrs. John (Nora) Hendrickson, Paramount, Calif., Mrs. Walter (Selma) Kjelland) Fargo; and Mrs. Casper (Esther) Piatz, Sanborn; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
