Description	:	Mrs. Bethany (Hainey) Wampler died at the family residence Thursday, August 17th 1899. She was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Feb. 22, 1829 and was married to Galen E. Wampler, May 15th 1853. In 1862 they moved to Smithville, Indiana and one year later moved to Iowa. In 1870 they came to Kansas and settled in Walnut Township. They are all married and are amoung our best and... Read More	Mrs. Bethany (Hainey) Wampler died at the family residence Thursday, August 17th 1899. She was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Feb. 22, 1829 and was married to Galen E. Wampler, May 15th 1853. In 1862 they moved to Smithville, Indiana and one year later moved to Iowa. In 1870 they came to Kansas and settled in Walnut Township. Nine children were born to them; five living and four dead. Those living are George W. Wampler, Joe Wampler, Mrs. M.B. Loomis, E.C. Wampler, and Ed Wampler. They are all married and are amoung our best and most highly respected citizens. Her father was a Baptist minister of considerable ability. She was converted and joined the Baptist Church early in her life; later she united with the M.E. Church. At the time of her death she had been a member of the M.E. Church for nearly sixty years. Her departure reminds us that we are in the very shadow of death even when the world appears brightest, hopes highest and usefulness as we measure capabilities greatest. She was kind hearted, noble, true, the impersonation of the fine qualities of a noble Christian woman, walking in an atmosphere where the hearts best impulses are wholly companions of the soul. Faithful in her devotional services, a true helpmate to the aged, companion of her youth and an affectionate mother. Her life was a benediction to her family and to the world. The riches of eternity were unfold to her in the shadowy evening of her life. Seventy-three winters and summers had passed over her head. There were years of sunshine and shadows, toil and suffering. Today on the mountain top; tomorrow in the valley of despondency. But in all the trials of life she never lost sight of the cross and she had an abiding faith in Jesus. During her last sickness she suffered intensely. Death came to her on Thursday morning at about 8:30. Her aged husband, her children and one of her brothers were gathered around the bed. There was no struggle, but quietly and peacefully her life went out and her soul passed to the glory world. The wife and mother whose life for forty-six years had made the home pleasant, bright and cheerful was cold in death. Her virtues and her kind and loving deeds that her heart moved her to do will live in the memory of her kindred and friends. By this stroke and another link in the golden chain has been forged that will bind the loved ones to the better land. Besides the husband and children already mentioned she leaves four brothers, J.W. Hainey, Green, Kansas, Zeke Hainey, Harrodsburg, Indiana, C.C. Hainey, Stillwater, Oklahoma, George Hainey, Kirksville, Indiana, and other kindred and friends to mourn her death. The funeral services were held at the family residence on Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.B. Sears and a large concourse followed the mourners to the Walnut Cemetery where she was laid to rest.
