China Dec. 3rd 1863 My Dear Aunt, I now take my seat a few moments to let you know how we are getting along this way. we are all as well as usual this way and I hope this may find you the same. Maria and her baby have both been sick but have got well. They had the dysentery. but Maria got so she came up here two weeks ago last Saturday. That has raged dreadfully around here. There was a great many said they had rather have the Diptheria get into their family than the dysentery. John and George Fairfield have both lost their babies with it. Uncle James and Aunt Rebecca have been here this fall. They were only this way a week. They only had Charlie and the baby. her baby is slim. he had the whooping cough last summer and after he got over that he had the dysentery and now this fall he coughs again as hard as ever and there is a dreadful rattling in his throat. the Dr said if his lungs were well he would risk all other troubles. There has been that rattling in his throat since last June. Julia Abby has had the Lung Fever. but is so she goes out doors now she went out for the first time last Thursday or friday. Horace Dow is sick he has had the Lung and Pleurisy fevers. he has been quite sick but the last I heard from him he was beginning to get better. Laurrilla Webber is sick. she has had the dropsy. there was a spell a short time ago the Dr did not think she would live but she is now getting better. Rebecca Worth has really got a daughter. two weeks old today. Aunt Eliza Clark has been very low. there was as much as a week they did not think she would live from one day to another. but she is getting better now so she could sit bolstered up in bed she has had an absess on one of her lungs as large as a quart bowl. The Dr. said it was. Marietta has got another little girl. I guess 'it' is not far from three months old. she has named it Florence Eliza. I believe I have writen to you that John Webber Jr. had a girl they have named it Sarepta. Uncle Benjamin Young is quite slim. I hardly think he will live through the winter. one day he will be quite smart and the next day he will not be able to sit any hardly. Oh Aunt Hannah. Jonathan Bassett lost a bee hive. The next night after Rebecca Worths baby was born. he mistrusted Watson Halloway, and Jotham Stuart for they came away from the tavern at the Outlet about ten oclock that night. He went and got a search warrant and went to Windsor and searched their houses and barn's. at last he found a little piece of honey comb in Halloways dung heap. and he asked him where he got it. says he "I bought some honey of my Brother last summer. but it was not in the comb." That was all he could finch out about it. but I must close for my sheet is nearly full. Please write as soon as you get this if you can if not more than two lines. I shall not write again until I hear from you for I do not know but you have moved. Please excuse bad writing for my pen is dreadful poor. but I did not not know but you might like to hear from this way if the writing was poor. Let me know what you have name your baby.
