Balcomb passed away at her home, five and a half miles southeast of Cairo, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 3 days. Betsy Emery was born at Upton, Mass., on March 3, 1844. While a young girl, she moved with her parents to Canterbury, N. H., after which she moved to Lincoln county, Mo., where she received her education and taught school She was united in marriage to Henry S. Balcomb on April 20, 1871, living on a farm which occupation they continued up to the last. In March, 1890, the family moved from Missouri to Holdrege, living there three years since which time they have made their home near Cairo. Betsy Balcomb has made her life one of the best, as she has always led a Christian life caring for the sick and relieving the distressed. She united with the Baptist church in March, 1894. Eight children were born to this union, two boys, George W. of Grand Island and Wm. F., who still resides at home, and six girls: Mrs. Ray Green, Mrs W. H. Quincy, Mrs. Lester Dayton, all of Cairo, Mrs. Ezra Hodgson of Burrough, Mrs. Frank Stevens of Grand Island and Mrs. James Garland of Central City. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon.
