Goettsch, age 66, of Yankton, died Sunday, January 6, 2002, at her home with her four children at her bedside following a seven-month battle with lung and bone cancer. Visitation is from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Bettie was born June 28, 1935 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to James and Alida (Fields) Martens. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. She attended Nettleton Business School. In 1961, she married Robert Stuerman and they farmed at Luverne, Minnesota. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1964. In 1977, she married Homer Goettsch and they lived at Sioux Falls until moving to Hartford in 1980. She later moved to Watertown, living there for two years before returning to Hartford. She then returned to Sioux Falls in 1990 and moved to Yankton in 1994. While at Yankton, she worked as a waitress at Hardee's Restaurant until her illness forced her to retire. Survivors include her sons, Bill Stuerman of Yankton, and Randy Stuerman of Algona, Iowa; daughters and sons-in-law Roxanna and Dan Grogan of Brandon and Carlina and Brent Moresco of Yankton; three grandchildren, Cassie and Josh Grogan and Baby Moresco; sisters, Jessie Hughes of Sioux Falls and Bonnie Thompson of Harrisburg; brother, Arthur Martens of Sioux Falls; and special sister-in-law Mary Ellen Martens of Jacksonville, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Jim Jr., Arnold and Jerry Martens.
