The generous, loving and joyful spirit of dear, sweet Betty will be missed terribly. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Sunday, November 19th, 11:30 AM at the Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue. Betty was born February 21, 1931, in Hoquiam, WA, to Mary and Arne Casperson. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Seattle, WA, in 1949. Betty graduated from UCLA in 1953. She went on to be a teacher in the Bellevue school district where she met her husband, Lloyd Gering. Betty and Lloyd were married in 1971. Betty retired from the school district in 1986. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, and later by her dear companion, William (Bill) Abel. Betty loved her friends and family. Through her life she enjoyed gardening, alpine skiing, playing tennis, sailing in Puget Sound, travel, writing letters, maintaining family traditions, wildlife-watching and keeping a beautiful home and yard. Betty was known for her special cake baking skills, particularly angel food and Italian cream cakes. Betty was a devoted sister, daughter, aunt, great-aunt, great-great aunt, step-mother and friend. She loved her family and was interested in what everyone in the family was doing. Betty is survived by her sister, MaryJean Bestwick; her brother, George Casperson (Sandra); her step-children, Phyllis Blackburn and David Gering; her nieces, Denise Bestwick, Christin Casperson, Kimberly DeGarmo, and Cheri Hill; her nephews, Craig Bestwick, Richard Bestwick and Neil Bestwick; and Bill Abel's children, Joann Crow and Carla Merisko. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evergreen Health Hospice, Special Olympics, or Salvation Army. Published in The Seattle Times on Nov. 12, 2017
