Betty Ann Grabenbauer was born on March 1, 1924 to Joseph E and Ruby (LaPour) Grabenbauer. Betty grew up in Marshalltown, IA and began her education at St Mary’s Catholic School in 1930. She graduated from high school in 1942. Betty worked at Kresge's Dime Store after graduation until she entered the St Thomas Nursing Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 in the Cadet Nursing Program. Betty graduated with an RN degree in 1946. Betty started a nursing career that would last for the next 45 years. Betty was united in marriage to George (Jack) Bloomberg, Jr on November 9, 1946. They were married for 24 years and made their home in Webster City, IA where they raised 5 children. Betty worked as a Registered Nurse at the Hamilton County Hospital for 45 years, retiring in 1989. Betty worked in every department of the hospital. She was called Doctor Betty and Angel Betty; many people over the years requested her care. She was a passionate, loving and caring nurse. She loved her work. As a gift to her children, her hard work ethic was modeled and passed down to all as well as her strong Catholic faith. Betty was an active member of St Thomas Aquinas parish in Webster City for 60 years.Betty received her driver’s license in 1964. She learned how to drive a straight stick on the column with a 1958 Ford station wagon; grinding the gears all the way down to the football field. Who learns to drive their first car with a straight stick by their spouse?!? Betty learned at the same time as her oldest son and daughter.Betty relocated to Scottsbluff, NE in 2008 to be near her daughters. During the past 6 years Betty was in Scottsbluff, she resided at The Village. She was an active member of St Agnes Church. Betty was an avid walker; she loved to walk around the pond and sit on the bench watching the birds, ducks and swans. She loved her crossword puzzles and playing cards.Betty loved to talk to children, stopping to say 'hi' or 'how are you?' Betty enjoyed family camping trips and vacations to national and state parks and shared her love of nature with her family. She enjoyed hiking trails, fishing, making campfires and cooking out. Betty loved her flowers and her plants. "They are my babies" she would tell us. Betty loved roses. She loved nuturing her roses and vegetable garden. She shared her love of flowers and gardening with family, friends and anybody she met. She also loved birds. She would fill the bird feeder and water pools and watch all the kinds of birds coming into her yard and eat. Betty was strong willed, fiercely independent and had a great sense of humor and she spoke her mind. Betty would tell us about her best friend, her Dad, who took her fishing and spent much time with her. Betty has many fond memories of the time she spent with her mom and dad in the garden. She was especially close to her maternal Grandma, Anna(Fialka)LaPour, who was from Bohemia. On wash days, Betty loved the smells of bread baking and enjoyed swinging on the swing and helping Grandma in the garden. Mom loved to bake and was always anxious to try a new recipe and share it with everybody. Most of all Betty loved her family. She was proud of every one of us and always took time to tell us she loved us or to give us some of her advice or help. Betty was a very compassionate person who loved helping other people.She was preceded in death by parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, 2 infants sons at birth Michael Joseph and Stephen Craig, 1 grandson Jeremy Jutz, 2 brothers Dick and Jimmie and former husband, George (Jack) Bloomberg Jr.
