Description	:	McDowell, VA. Betty Ann Hogshead 59, of McDowell died Wednesday afternoon, March 17, 1993 at University if Virginia Hospital. She was born October 18, 1933 at Blue Grass, a daughter of Virginia Wimer Hammer of Monterey and the late Leonard Hammer. On June 15, 1952, she married Charles H. Hogshead, who died January 26, 1988. Mrs. Hogshead was an elder and choir member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, the Women of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, and the Bull Pasture Extension Homemaker's Club. Betty Ann Hogshead 59, of McDowell died Wednesday afternoon, March 17, 1993 at University if Virginia Hospital. She was born October 18, 1933 at Blue Grass, a daughter of Virginia Wimer Hammer of Monterey and the late Leonard Hammer. On June 15, 1952, she married Charles H. Hogshead, who died January 26, 1988. Mrs. Hogshead was an elder and choir member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, the Women of the McDowell Presbyterian Church, and the Bull Pasture Extension Homemaker's Club. She and her husband Charles, operated Hoghead's Grocery for 30 years. She was active in the Highland Cancer Society, serving on the board of directors as well as chairperson for the Stonewall District Crusade. In 1991, she won the Volunteer Award for Highland County Cancer Unit. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, George Leonard Hogshead of Mathews, N.C.; A sister, Sandra H. Bratton of Warm Springs; two granddaughters, Laura Hope and Sarah Ashley Hogshead and a grandson, Charles Gregory Hogshead, all of Matthews, N.C.; and two nieces, Shawna and Shelley Bratton. A son Gregory Hogshead, preceded her in death, June 12, 1982. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Obaugh Funeral Home by the Reverend Lester LaPrade. Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darwin King, Benny Ralston, Bob and Gene Hammer, John Reynolds, John Wagner, Shannon Maloy and Leo McCray.
