She was born March 8, 1930 in Columbiana, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carey A. and Dorothy Mae (Bell) Houlette. Betty was a graduate of Fairfield High School and a graduate of Salem City Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at Salem City Schools as the school nurse for 27 years. Read More	SALEM - Betty Ann (Houlette) Poulton Monteleone, age 79, of 339 West 14th Street, Salem died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Jefferson Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was born March 8, 1930 in Columbiana, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carey A. and Dorothy Mae (Bell) Houlette. Betty was a graduate of Fairfield High School and a graduate of Salem City Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at Salem City Schools as the school nurse for 27 years. She was previously an office nurse for Dr. Lee Bookwalter and Dr. Wade Bacon and a nurse supervisor at Salem Community Hospital. Betty was a member and past president of Century House of Salem, member of Salem Elks Lodge #305 Women's Auxiliary, past president of the Salem Teacher's Association, former member of the Florence Nightingale Nurses Association, and volunteered at the Red Cross and the Blood Bank. She loved NASCAR racing and the beach. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, crafts and was an avid reader, Her 1st husband, Keith R. Poulton, whom she married in 1951, preceded her in death in 1953 and her 2nd husband, Peter D. Monteleone, whom she married November 29, 1958, preceded her in death October 30, 1978. Survivors include a son, Joe (Jinette) Monteleone of Avon; two daughters, Barbara (Vince) Balistere of Pittsburgh and Diana (Terry) Carli of Homeworth; two sisters, Carolyn (Paul) Esenwein of Salem and Mariam Miller of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren, Jason Miller, Michelle Cooper, Emily Monteleone, Peter Monteleone and Julia Monteleone. Betty's best friends were Marilyn Loudon and the late Marge Loutzenhiser. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Bill, Max and Leland Houlette. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Century House of Salem, 1171 East State Street, Salem, Ohio 44460.
