Description	:	Betty Mullings, 82, died March 9, 2013 at the Colfax General Long Term Care Unit in Springer, NM. She suffered from symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born Jan. 4, 1931 to immigrants Anna (Pollo) Weigang in a log cabin in Climax, Colo., at 11,318 feet. She was the sixth of eight children. She suffered from symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Betty was born Jan. 4, 1931 to immigrants Anna (Pollo) Weigang in a log cabin in Climax, Colo., at 11,318 feet. She was the sixth of eight children. She attended secondary school all 12 years in Climax, where a "snow day" never occurred. She attended Adams State College and met fellow dining hall employee Jim Mullings. They married in Alamosa on December 23, 1951, during her senior year and Jim's first job as a teacher in Sanford, Colo. Betty was hired to teach in Sanford the following year. Jim and Betty lived in Sanford and Pueblo before moving to Raton in 1957. After a hiatus from teaching until all of the four Mullings children were in school, Betty went on to teach third and fourth grades for about 20 more years at Columbian and Kearny elementary schools in Raton. Betty taught Sunday School and served on the kitchen crew at the First Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years, and was a Cub Scout leader. She directed the "Small Fry" camp at Philmont Scout Ranch in 1971. After retirement from their education careers, Jim and Betty traveled extensively. They visited all 50 states, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and enjoyed four cruises. Betty was a voracious reader, going through three ot four novels a week. She also took up running in mid-life, and won numerous trophies in her age categories in races. Betty was known for her love of children, her own, and everybody else's. Betty is survived by her husband James, of Raton, her four children: Richard of Pueblo, Colo., Janeen (Marvin) Utley of Colo Springs, David, of Ridgway, Colo., and Gail (Phil) Cimino of Raton; six grandchildren: Lindsay (Craig) Lodis of Honolulu, Curtis Utley of Ft. Collins, CO, Erin Cimino (Rafael Mosqueda) of Albuquerque, Rachel Cimino of Las Cruces, Luke and Leah Cimino of Raton, and one great grandchild, Lena Mosqueda, of Albuquerque.
