Description	:	Betty LaFee, age 77, of Huron, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at her home. Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 13th at the Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Betty Caryl Porath was born June 20, 1935, to Robert C. and Sylvia (Lemke) Porath at Spearfish, South Dakota. At the age of 5, her family moved to a farm near Ortley, South Dakota. Betty attended rural school in Blooming Valley Township #1, for her first 8 years. She attended Waubay High School graduating in 1953. While attending high school she lived with various families in Waubay and worked for her room and board. She married Kenneth Hagedorn at Huron in 1957. They had one son, Scott Hagedorn. Mr. Hagedorn passed away in 1959. On November 28, 1963, Betty married Glen LaFee at Huron. Glen later adopted Scott. They had one daughter, Jean Marie who passed away in 1996, at the age of 31. Betty moved to Huron in 1955 and went to work for South Dakota Farmers Union. Later she was employed by GMAC, Bureau of Reclamation and Western Area Power Administration. She retired in 1998. She had been active in Mid Dakota ARC of Huron, and served on the State Board of Directors for many years. She was a member of NARFE, AARP, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, RSVP, Grace Episcopal Church, PEO Chapter CH, Nordby Fitness Center. Betty enjoyed sewing, reading, spending time with many friends and traveling. She was a RSVP volunteer in Jeanie Salter's third grade classroom at Washington Grade School for all of her years at Washington School. Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Scott LaFee of Huron; grandson, Tyler LaFee of Huron; two sisters, Marilyn Haskell of Rapid City and Dee (David) Gill of Blackduck, Minnesota; two brothers, Gordon Porath of Blackduck, Minnesota and Russell (Joan) Porath of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Kenneth Hagedorn and Glen LaFee; daughter, Jean LaFee; two sisters-in-law, Judie Porath and Mary Ann Gogolin; and two brothers-in-law, Eugene Anderson and Steve Haskell.
