Description	:	Betty Grace Hoelting, 85, Austin, Texas, formerly of Lawrence, Nebraska departed this life Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Austin, Texas. Betty was born on April 27, 1930 to Claude and Helen (Amos) McVee, on a farm in Missouri. She and her identical sister, Maudie Briggs, were so tiny (less than 2 1/2 lbs each) that make shift bassinettes (sic) were made from shoe boxes and the oven was propped open to act as an incubator. Read More	Betty Grace Hoelting, 85, Austin, Texas, formerly of Lawrence, Nebraska departed this life Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Austin, Texas. Betty was born on April 27, 1930 to Claude and Helen (Amos) McVee, on a farm in Missouri. She and her identical sister, Maudie Briggs, were so tiny (less than 2 1/2 lbs each) that make shift bassinettes (sic) were made from shoe boxes and the oven was propped open to act as an incubator. They both enjoyed life to the fullest. She graduated from Pittsburgh State University. In 1965 she was united in marriage to Walter Hoelting. Over the course of her 85 years, Betty had several careers. As an Extension Agent in Kansas, High School Teacher and Postmaster in Lawrence. She loved visiting with everyone that would come to the Post Office. She moved to Austin, Texas in 1994 and worked several different jobs including IBM manufacturing. She encouraged so many people to go back to school and made so many suggestions for improvement that she was employee of the quarter many times. What she loved most in this world was being a Grandmother to her four grandchildren. She was known as Grandma Betty to nearly everyone in the neighborhood. Betty is survived by daughter Teri Nissen and husband Jim, Austin, Texas; grandchildren Nathan, Clair, Katherine and Hannah. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Jim; sisters Maudie, Peggy and Carrie Mae. Rosary was held Friday, February 26, 2016 from the Lawrence Visitation Chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. Hoelting were held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. Services were officiated by Rev. Father Thomas Bush. Deacon Jim Ricketts assisted at the funeral Mass. Also assisting with the service were Acolyte, Allen Ostdiek, Organist, Linda Ostdiek and Song Leader Carla Kohmetscher. The Offertory gifts were carried to the altar by Betty's three granddaughters. Pallbearers were Nathan Nissen, Rick Hoelting, Calvin Briggs, Paul Hoelting, Bob Janda and T.J. Hoelting. Interment was in the Sacred Heart parish cemetery east of Lawrence. Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
