Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Christ's Family Church, 4601 Utica Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will follow at McCausland Cemetery. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on Dec. 13, 1935, the daughter of Herman and Eva Stichter Carsten. Betty was the cook at Christ's Family Church day Care Center. In earlier years, she worked Brach's Candy Company of Davenport and was a preschool teacher at the former Broadview United Methodist Church of Bettendorf. She loved to visit the gambling boats and play the slot machines. Betty was an accomplished cook and enjoyed preparing meals, cookies and other treats for her family and friends. The Chicago cubs and Tiger Woods were two of her favorites, and she enjoyed other sports as well. Her beloved family and the children at the day care center were the joys of her life, and she will always be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her. Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Pat Mink and her fiance Bryan Clark, Wendy Holst and her boyfriend Rick Ralfs, (Cindy) Terry) Wermuth, and Julie(Scott) Lange; her sons, Dennis Holst, and Mike (Tami) Holst; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen (Lu) Pearsall, Port Byron; her brother, Terry Carsten, Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special and dear friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, J.C. Carsten.
