Mrs. Anderson’s formative years were spent in Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School in 1941. Anderson, 95, of Columbia City, IN, and having family in Andrews, IN, died Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 1:46 p.m. at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Anderson’s formative years were spent in Richland Township. She graduated from Larwill High School in 1941. She and her husband lived at several sites in Whitley County, including living for 20 years at Loon Lake before moving to Columbia City. In addition to being a homemaker raising their six children, she had worked at the Show-You Soy Sauce factory, Columbia City; Blue Bell, Keiser’s Restaurant, Barrel Drive-In and Frank’s Greenhouse for five years. She then started and ran Anderson’s Greenhouse for three years. She was a member of Troy Presbyterian Church, where she served as the second female elder of the church from 1989 to 1993 and was a past president of the women's association. She also belonged to the Whitley County Historical Society and the Whitley County Genealogical Society. She was a volunteer at the Whitley County Memorial Hospital for 15 years, Hickory Creek Nursing Home for 10 years and The Oaks. She was born Feb. 19, 1923, in Richland Township, Whitley County, to Birdie C. and Frances M. Goodrich Schuman. She married Edward LaVaughn Anderson on March 1, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1988. She is survived by four daughters, Janice (Donald “Buck”) Mathias, of Andrews; Susan M. Anderson, of Fishers; and Bonnie K. (Oscar) Torres and Carol J. Perry, both of Columbia City; two sons, Dan R. (Mary) Anderson and Larry A. (Janie) Anderson, both of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Anderson. Calling is Tuesday, May 1, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 10 a.m., with one hour of calling prior, at the Troy Presbyterian Church, 6465 W. Lincolnway, Columbia City. Burial will be in the Adams Cemetery. Memorials are to the Whitley County Historical Society or the American Heart Association.
