Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017, with a 6:30 p.m., Vigil Service, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. The Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Betty Jane Giarratano was born to Herbert and Hollis Cox Andrews on December 6, 1924, in Clemons, Iowa. An only child growing up on the family farm, a love of music came alive in her. In the early 1940’s she along with her two cousins, sang on Marshalltown radio station KFJB. In 1944 Betty and her mother moved to California to help care for her dad who was badly wounded after his ship was sunk during World War II. After he recovered they moved back to Marshalltown where Betty attended Business College and later worked for Fisher Controls in the office. She met Tony Giarratano and the two were married in 1948. They started their family and brought six children into the world. Her love of family and the sacrifices she and Tony made during their 53 years of marriage, was a fine example of their generations’ common sense and values. She is survived her six children: daughters, Kathy and husband Dick Meisel of Marshalltown, Nancy and husband Leon Gealow of Marshalltown, Theresa and husband Bill Cound of Oswego, IL; sons, Tom and wife Terri of Joplin, MO, Steve of Marshalltown, and Mike of Waterloo, IA. She will also be dearly missed by her 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
