Smith Betty J. Smith, 48, of 23 Campbell, died Thursday afternoon at the Allen County Hospital. She had been seriously ill the past two months. She was born Dec. 28, 1929 in ElDorado and came to Iola with her parents at an early age. She attended Iola schools and on Oct. 21, 1950, was married to Robert W. Smith in Fort Scott. Except for a short time in Fort Scott they made their home in Iola. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Robert of the home, four daughters, Mrs. Steven (Rema) Cole, Mrs. Ronnie (Amy) Helman, Mrs. Raymond (Sharon) Sutterby, all of Iola and Karen Sue Smith of the home; her step-mother Mrs. Amy Maxwell of Iola and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Maxwell. The funeral service will be at 2p.m. Saturday at the Waugh-Yokum Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Noyce officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. The family suggest memorials in Mrs. Smith name be given to the Cancer Fund. They may be left at the funeral home.
