Petty Street Extension, Gaffney, S.C. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Magnolias of Gaffney. Born in Boiling Springs, N.C., she was the widow of the late George Julian Parris, Sr. and daughter of the late Dawson Marcus Batchelor and Janie Humphries Batchelor. She was a homemaker and a talented florist formerly working for several years at Bookshelf Florist. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed fellowship time with them. She was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. The family would like to express special thanks to Agape Hospice, especially, Lindsey and Lisa, and the staff of Magnolia's of Gaffney. Surviving are a son George Parris, Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Gaffney; two daughters, Gloria Duncan and Melanie Parris Fisher and husband, Donald, both of Gaffney; a sister, Beatrice Sarratt of Belmont, N.C.; a grandson, Nick Carter of Austin, Tx.; three great-grandchildren, Avery Atkins, Hayden Atkins and Karson Atkins. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Batchelor and Lynn Batchelor and three sisters, Ellen Sarratt, Ruby Batchelor and Vernie Cole. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m.PM on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Blakely Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery with Dr. Wofford Caughman and Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Agape Hospice, 1060 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303 or Southside Baptist Church, "Capital Improvement Fund", 204 W. O'Neal Street, Gaffney, S.C. 29340. The family will be at the home of Gloria Duncan, 106 Cambridge Circle, Gaffney. An online guest register is available at www.blakelyfuneralhome.com.
