Prew (27) at 7:30 P.M. on 14 March 1947 in Battle Ground, Clark County, Washington. ================ The Columbian Vancouver, Washington Sunday, 10 June 2018 BETTY JEAN PREW January 28, 1925 ~ May 24, 2018 Betty Jean Prew, 93 of Battle Ground, WA, passed away on May 24, 2018 of natural causes, at Salmon Creek Legacy Hospital. She was born in Chehalis, WA Jan. 28, 1925. Betty was married to Art "Herb" Prew in March 1947; they were married for 38 wonderful years until his passing in 1985. Mom was a welder, homemaker, seamstress, and cook. She was the original "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII Vancouver shipyards. After getting married, Mom raised two boys and a string of other children needing a loving home. When her kids were "growing up", she chaperoned local dances for the teens, given by the Eagles. Mom was a local 4-H club sponsor, involving her sons in raising cattle and showing them at the Clark County Fair. Mom became a seamstress with the Jantzen Knitting mills in Vancouver, followed by a career in cooking in Battle Ground, including a nursing home, Tiger Bowl, and Toby's drive-in. She also cooked for the Clark County and Vancouver City jails. Mom was a volunteer and contributor to the community. She was a lifetime member of the Fraternal order of Eagles, with many years as president of the local Battle Ground Order. Mom volunteered on the local voting committee, counting votes and verification of local residents signatures. She was also involved in sewing over 100 quilts for family and a local church, and was famous for her doll clothes at the Battle Ground Christmas Bazaar. She enjoyed making doll clothes for the grandchildren, and there wasn't a child she felt did not deserve pretty and well made doll clothes. Betty is survived by a sister, Louise Wood of Mossyrock, WA; sons, Jim (Barbara) and George (Kathy); 6 grandchildren, Benjamin Prew, Chris Prew, Kathryn Fisher, Elizabeth Ferrer, Elise Trullinger and Kara Prew and 9 great-grandchildren, who were the delight of her life. There will be a simple graveside service at Northwood Park Cemetery on June 23, 2018. A Celebration of Life picnic will be held at Lewisville Park, which was one of Betty's favorite places to enjoy friends and family. We hope you can join us August 16, 2018 from 11-5 p.m.
