Betty died March 18, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall, South Dakota. Betty Jean Loock was born on September 19, 1927, in Redbird Nebraska to Leon and Edna (Hull) Mellor. She attended Redbird School District and Lynch High School. After High School she met and married Lucian Loock from Spencer. To this union four children were born. Betty and Lucian farmed around the Spencer area for seven years and then moved into town at Spencer when Lucian needed open heart surgery and could no longer farm. Betty and Lucian owned and operated a café in Spencer for several years named the Half and Half Café, they used to say it was half theirs and half the bank. Then Betty worked at the grocery store in Spencer, after that she went to work at the Lynch Hospital and did the things she loved the most, working with the babies and helping in surgery. She was there 20 years. Betty was probably most known for her great baking- there was always fresh bread, pies and her famous “long johns”. She loved her visits from the grandchildren and was always happy when she had a baby on her lap. She liked to play cards, quilt, and knit. Betty was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic church and Altar Society. She was preceded in death by husband, Lucian in 1994; her daughter, Ronda Wendt and Rhonda’s husband Steve; three sisters, Delores Sedivy, Ardis Bjornsen, and Opal Halstead.
