Belleville News-Democrat, The (IL) - Thursday, October 22, 2009 Betty J. Denahy, nee Roubinek, 82, of Highland, Ill., born Oct. 25, 1926, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo. Mrs. Denahy was born at Oxford Junction, Iowa; grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa in the eastern part of the state. After graduation she was a telephone operator and later worked for Dr. Frank in Maquoketa. She and her husband had lived in Michigan during the mid-1950 and moved to Highland, Ill., in 1960. Mrs. Denahy worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a Medical Secretary in the Lab and X-Ray Department for 26 years, retiring in 1992. She and her husband had traveled extensively in their motor home. She enjoyed T.V.; her Toy Poodle "Mitzi" was a constant companion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter LaVerne "Vern" Denahy, whom she married Nov. 28, 1945, and who passed away Oct. 12, 1997; her parents, Godfrey and Gladys, nee Kohl, Roubinek; a son-in-law, Lonnie Frey, who died Jan. 22, 2008; and a grandchild, Jason J. Schmitt, who died as an infant in 1979. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia A. Frey of Highland, Ill., and Barbara J. (Significant Other James R. Harpstrite) Schmitt of Trenton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Corey J. (Edie) Frey of Grantfork, Ill., Kelley A. Frey of Highland, Ill., Nathan J. Schmitt of Breese, Ill., and Tyson R. Schmitt of Breese, Ill. Memorial contributions may be made to Charity of the Donor's Choice. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family by visiting www.spengel-boulanger.com. Visitation: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Highland, Ill., and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound, Iowa. Funeral: Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound, Iowa, with the Rev. Father David Brownfield, Pastor Saints Philip & James Catholic Church Grand Mound, Iowa officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound, Iowa.
