Betty Jo Belles was the daughter of Elsie Jane Belles. She was raised in Malcom, Iowa and graduated from Malcom High School in 1944. She was a very good basketball player. Read More	Betty Jo Collum age 89 of Grinnell, Iowa died on Monday at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. Burial in the Rock Creek Cemetery west of Grinnell. Betty Jo Belles was the daughter of Elsie Jane Belles. She was raised in Malcom, Iowa and graduated from Malcom High School in 1944. She was a very good basketball player. She worked for General Telephone Company in Grinnell. She was married to John Dean "Jackie" Collum on February 28, 1947 in Grinnell. They were the parents of three boys; Tom, Bill and Chris and three daughters; Kathy, Deb and Terri. Jackie was a professional baseball player and the family lived in many places during his time with the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Cincinnati Reds. In 1964 the family moved back to Grinnell and Jackie owned and operated Pioneer Oil and Betty managed the accounting. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell and a lifetime member of the Grinnell Eagles Club. Betty was a devoted mother who always provided for her family. She grew up poor and made sure her children were taught the fundamental values of life. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her homemade bread and Christmas candies. Her enjoyments included cooking, gardening, canning, crocheting and fishing on the Puls family farm pond.
