Betty Louise Bork, the daughter of Walter A. and Thelma L. (Koons) Bork was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on October 14, 1933. Betty received her education at the Hayes Consolidated School, graduating with the Class of 1952. While in high school, Betty was captain of the girls basketball team. Ploeger, 78, of Storm Lake died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Betty Louise Bork, the daughter of Walter A. and Thelma L. (Koons) Bork was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on October 14, 1933. Betty received her education at the Hayes Consolidated School, graduating with the Class of 1952. While in high school, Betty was captain of the girls basketball team. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. On May 24, 1953, Betty was united in marriage to Marvin E. Ploeger at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and this marriage was blessed with four children: Wanda, Cheryl, David, and Vicki. Following Marv's honorable discharge, they lived for 10 years south of Storm Lake and then moved to their farm east of Storm Lake where they resided for the next 44 years. Betty led a very busy life as a loving and devoted wife and mother and also worked in the community. Throughout her lifetime, Betty had been employed at Security Trust and Savings Bank, Montgomery Ward Store, the hospital, Head Start, and Wal-Mart. For many years, Marvin and Betty were members of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In their later years, they were members of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Storm Lake. Betty continued to exhibit her servant's heart by doing many job within her church and she also belonged to the Ladies Aid and Bible Study. Whenever something needed to be done, people could count on Betty to volunteer. She enjoyed tending to both her flower and vegetable gardens and did a lot of canning of produce every year. Betty was also an accomplished seamstress and during her married lifetime, she and Marv enjoyed camping and square dancing. Betty had a special place in her heart for children and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those who will always love Betty and cherish her memory include her children: Wanda (Jack) Konz of Johnston, Iowa; Cheryl (Steve) Olmstead of Mesa, Arizona; David (Judy) Ploeger of Storm Lake, Iowa; Vicki (Joseph) Kingkade of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Nicholas (Andrea) Konz; Andrea (Ben) Tilus; Amy Konz; Justin (Heather) Olmstead; Phillip (Becca) Olmstead; Tony (Robyn) Ploeger; Peggy Ploeger; Ryan (Karin) Kingkade; Ashley (Alex) Slaughter; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers: Larry (Jeannette) Bork of Eddyville, Iowa; Garry (Terry) Bork of Independence, Kentucky; sister, Nelda (Richard) Sampel of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends.
