Description	:	Betty Lee Rufty McPheters, 79, formerly of Spencer, died Friday (Feb. 27, 2004) at Homestead Hills Assisted Livings in Winston-Salem. Born June 26, 1924, in Spencer, Mrs. McPheters was a daughter of the late Baxter Adam and Josie Curlee Rufty. She was educated in Spencer city schools, graduated from Spencer High School and attended Salisbury Business College. Mrs. McPheters was a homemaker and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. She had lived in Winston-Salem since 1955. Betty was married for 42 years to the late Harold H. Born June 26, 1924, in Spencer, Mrs. McPheters was a daughter of the late Baxter Adam and Josie Curlee Rufty. She was educated in Spencer city schools, graduated from Spencer High School and attended Salisbury Business College. Mrs. McPheters was a homemaker and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. She had lived in Winston-Salem since 1955. Betty was married for 42 years to the late Harold H. McPheters. She was an avid bridge player during her active years. She was also a devoted wife and mother. Betty was loved by many and a second mom to many. She was affectionately referred to as "Mamma Betty" or "Betty Bird". She always made you feel welcome and loved to laugh and cut up, as she put it. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Her husband, Harold H. McPheters, died Sept. 29, 1989. Survivors include a son, Hal R. McPheters, Florence, S.C.; and a daughter, Pamela J. McPheters, Winston-Salem. Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Jack Yarborough, minister of Centenary United Methodist Church. Visitation: 1-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury. Memorials: Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Obituary published in the Salisbury Post on March 1, 2004.
